Suburban Mum on a Mission

My diet blog.

I am using a combination of three days-a-week fasting and something called HIT exercising (20 seconds of intense exercise 9 times a week) to try and lose weight and get fit for my up coming wedding.

I will also be trying multiple, wacky antidotes and creams to make myself more beautiful in order to be a smoking hot bride.

BEANS ON TOAST

Half a tin of beans is 164
one slice of Warburtons seeded batch is 137
A smidge of olive spread is about 30 cals (a seriously thin spreading here)

Pretty filling meal = 331

No Boossh

So getting a little stir crazy eating those packets of food, so I am gonna calorie count and eat real food today. Although I am cheating and using this list!

http://www.bodychef.com/Articles/100-snacks-under-100-calories

So far I have had an apple and a cup of tea, it's 2pm and I am ok. But (and that's a big BUTT) we did a Lidl shop - first time there - and bought loads of crazy non-brand food and knowing it's there is making me want to snack and try it all. Fake twix, fake bounty's, fake mentos...this is gonna be a fun weekend!

PS. The list says a whole jar of gherkins is only 30 calories, so if you get starving - head to the pickles!

1/2 a tin

For lunch I am gonna have half a tin of this soup, it's pretty chunky and tastes quite nice. 105 calories for half a tin is good!

Mint Choc Shake

So not feeling Boossh today, I read a Facebook comment in which someone said the after-taste reminded her of blood and I really agree. I know these meals are so much tastier than other replacement meals, BUT  they just aren't as tasty as food.

So I tried freezing the mint choc shake to make an ice-cream, but it just made me taste it too much, the shakes should be drunk - and fast! This would have probably been a lovely milkshake, but the salty metallic after-taste was ruining it for me.

It didn't look like this - it looked like pinkish brown sludge.

No dinner

It's probably really bad, but I couldn't be bothered to eat/make dinner. I am hungry I just feel rough too, so couldn't face another Boossh. I didn't do pilates either - I had a nap...! This has to be the worst diet blog ever.. Oh yeah and I weighed myself and I have put on 3lbs. Waah!

Tonights mantra; tomorrow is a new day (kids go back to school, so here's hoping I can get a workout in...preferably one in which I lose half a stone).

Wild berry Review

This was really nice, tasted a bit like those fruitella sweets or a nice blackcurrant ice-cream. I think I prefer this to the banana milkshake. I whisked it in a bowl which seemed to increase the volume a bit and made it creamier. I will definitely do this in future.

7pm and it's meal 2

I am trying a wild berry buzz milkshake made with skimmed milk for tea, this was 230 calories. So after this I will have eaten 365 calories.

Ooopsy

I have been super negligent on the HIT exercise front, I tried on Friday and couldn't finish 20 seconds on my second run. I should try again today but I am knackered off hen - we did a burlesque class and went out dancing all evening so I feel I have done something. Going to do a pilates DVD when the kids have finished their Mr.Bean film instead. I just fancy something gentle and stretchy to get me feeling human again.

Breakfast sans Champignons

Picked the mushrooms out of this Thai curry.

This really hit the spot, it was like eating fried rice - so carbs! Just what I wanted, would buy loads of these next time. Hub-to-be took one to work with him too, so I will post what he thought of it - his first try of the sachets. This was really filling compare to some of the other meals - it is tied favourite between this and the korma so far.

I know, I know! We don't need vitamins with these meals, but I am sure my very hungover body could use a boost!

135 calories. Mint!

Urg... Messy

This weekend was ridiculous, binge drinking, kebab eating, pole dancing. So much fun. I must have drank a million calories and I had a massive curry for lunch a kebab for dinner and a Weatherspoon's fry-up (extra sausage, toast tea and cola) for breakfast...minging!

Well it's back on the diet (and the wagon) today and I am starving - as usual, but it's 1pm and I haven't eaten yet. Think I might have a meal pack. Don't fancy a milkshake. Day 2 of hangover I think, coz I still feel rough..what a wimp!

Beef Curry

Tonight I was famished and the Boossh beef curry (containing no beef) wasn't great. The korma was way better, in smell and flavor. This didn't have the curry smell, it was all just a bit bland. Oh well, going to bed now 9.15 as so hungry. Hen night starts tomorrow, got a boots meal deal for the train - chicken and curry sandwich for breakfast, with a granola yogurt and massive bottle of water.. well I need to line my stomach!

UPDATE: I didn't fancy the curry wrap sandwich once the morning came (it looked so good when I was hungry in the shop), so I had a ham and cheese toastie.. mmmm.

Crisps

So nearly grabbed a bag of crisps without thinking. Got to be self aware!

Narnar milkshake

The milkshakes are delicious - super sweet, they taste like melted ice-cream. This is right up my street, I love milkshakes made with ice-cream or fro-yo. Today I am having the banana one, it's lush, but 200mls of milk makes a tiny glass, I top mine up with some water so that I feel like I am getting more.

Again a milkshake doesn't feel like a meal.

This was 230 cals with the milk,  added to the 141 from this morning and I've had 371 cals so far.

Breakfast

I tried the sweetened porridge for breakfast today and it was fairly disgusting. Insipid wallpaper paste texture, thick gloop with lumps making it hard just to neck it and get it over with.
Not a fan.

It was 141 calories.

Day Off

How good is this diet? I am on my second day and I can eat whatever I want. So I've had branflakes with sultanas and banana, a toffee crisp, bacon pasta and a cupcake... still deciding on what to have for dinner, but pretty much know it will be followed by some peanut m&ms. So great.

It's back to 500-550 cals tomorrow so I better make the most of today..then it's hen night weekend. Which will be a blowout for sure, sticky drinks and greasy food to mop up all the alcohol.

Yummy

I know right, it looks like a bowl of cat sick.. but actually this was really tasty. I didn't order many of the meals really as I thought shakes would be more successful but wow this was lush. I just needed two sachets on top of a bowl of fried rice and I would be away. But I don't feel absolutely desperately hungry, I think because I know I can have whatever I want tomorrow. The 'real' Boossh diet consists of one more sachet and evening meal and snacks so I think you could survive on it, but I am looking for a long-term thing, which after today I am sure I could do. Also the cost of Boossh-ing would be pretty high if I was following the full plan, not something I can justify when I need to spend loads on getting married in ...52 days!! Jeez.

It has mushrooms in it

Horrid little buggers, but I am going to eat it whole - as opposed to picking them out with tweezers. I really am hungry.

My dinner

Decided on a chicken Korma. It's 141 calories and I only had 114 left if I was sticking religiously to 500 calories so I am 27 calories over. I will spank myself profusely - as punishment, but also as self-spanking is a great calorie burner.

Silly Billy's

I have to say this is a little silly, when I placed my order Boossh automatically added a shaker to my shopping cart but when my order arrived it wasn't there. My packing slip had the above note. (Shaker Pink - free > not available with Groupon Offer).

I don't need the shaker - I can whisk! BUT, if I was a new company I would treat all customers equally - even those who used a discount site as I'd want to have return custom. One way to get return custom is for your customers to be reminded about you - what better way than having a branded product of yours in their home?

Weight

As it's the first day of my diet I thought I should record my weight now. I am 10 stone and 4 pounds and 5 foot 7 inches, which gives me a BMI of 22.6. Ideally I will lose a stone which would put me at 130 pounds and a BMI of 20.

More than weight I am interested in achieving a flatter stomach, which is out of proportion with my frame at the moment. I had both of my children by c-section and still feel really weak in my stomach muscles. Pilates is helping a lot and the other day I managed to hold a full side plank - which was hard!

Coffee time

So I had a Frappuccino Fix shake for lunch, which was really nice. I am addicted to those Mocha Cookie Crumble fraps from Starbucks and this was sweet and creamy so would hit the spot when I was craving those. It's twenty minutes since I drank it and I was really hungry before and I am still a bit peckish now. I'd be eating my tea now with my kids usually and cooking for them really whet my appetite.

My coffee was made with skimmed milk which made it 230 cals. I had 344 left over from the chicken soup, so now I have 114 calories left..might have to go 30 over to eat another sachet. Suppose that's ok if 500-550 approx cals is my daily limit, then I can have milk on my 'fast days' too. As what is a shake without milk my friend? Not a great shake at all.

Smells good

Here's me prepping my breakfast (at midday) of chicken soup. The powder almost filled my mug but when I added the water the soup went into a full liquid, not gloopy as I feared it might. It smells really good - like chicken crisps.

OK so I've tasted it and it's not dreadful. I am not about to say it's as nice as a tin of Baxters chicken but it's definitely edible. Tastes a bit like a dissolved OXO cube in water but with a herby after-taste. It has no bits in like cup-a-soups.

Update: I found it nicer once I'd added a bit more hot water - was a tad strong. Also make sure you smooth out all of the lumps as they are nasty. I felt quite satisfied after this, I made it with boiling water so took little sips as it was cooling I think taking my time over it made it more filling.

Ok here goes nothing

About to try my first Boossh in chicken soup flavour

The soup is not suitable for vegetarians and has 156 calories.

That leaves me with 344cals left today.

Last meal

Tomorrow, its on!

Diet starts tomorrow... no, really

So according to the Boossh website orders ship the same day, but as yesterday was a bank holiday that means my order was probably shipped today and will hopefully arrive tomorrow. Good stuff, can't wait to crack on.

Pills

These are the pills I am taking to try and reduce my jawline breakouts. Evening primrose with cod liver oil, as I can't stand fish, and some other vitamins that boost energy. I will only take these on my 'eat' days as Boossh are vitamin balanced meal replacements. I am good and swallowing pretty big pills - which these are - my only issue so far have been a few fishy tasting burps. Catfood breath!

Hurting all over

Well those tiny runs didn't feel like much yesterday but today I feel like I've fallen down the stairs or something! Really do feel as if I spent a hard hour at the gym. Must be doing something good then...

Daily Fail

Much as I hate to promote The Mail, here's a good article from them on ADF (Alternate Day Fasting), with some details of how the diet can help the symptoms of asthma;

With a super creepy mocked up picture of a Janet Jackson alike with some food.

Happy Birthday Breakfast

Bacon, pancakes and maple syrup. Good god this is lush!

Sunday, 26 August 2012

Well I have just submitted my first Boossh order. I changed it up a bit from my earlier post for two reasons. One - if you sign out they don't save your cart and  Two - I didn't order any snack bars (as the five free with an order over £50 Facebook offer they are running doesn't work with the Groupon code - fair enough really).

The snack bars are an alternative for the fairly easy to prepare daily snack suggestions but as I am not following the Boossh diet as recommended I don't really need them.

Really looking forward to trying the shakes:

Thought I would try one of everything they sell* and rate them on here. Hopefully I will have recieved them by this week and I can get cracking on my diet.

N.B. The reason I am not starting my diet tomorrow (Monday) is that it's my sons 7th birthday so cake is a must AND because I cannot be bothered to calorie count - that's why I am using Boossh.

*Apart from their mushroom soup, I hate (to a phobic level) mushrooms. Although I did order a packet for Hub-to-be to try and I will record what he thought about it.

That didn't last long

It was so lush. Nom.

Chicken dinner

The reason that I cannot diet on a Sunday.

That was actually...fun!

We went for a dog walk through some wheat fields with my hub-to-be and kids (oh and Eric my dog) and running in them was pretty idyllic.20 seconds isn't very long at all to sprint. Feel all energized and happy.

1st HIT run

About to walk dog so gonna try and do three 20 second sprints. God save me!

Hormonal spots

So I looked at a facial mapping site and apparently these jawline pimples I get are hormonal. I know evening primrose is supposed to balance hormones so I am giving them a go. Let's see if they work.

If Michael Mosley jumped off a bridge...

So watching a little more of what Michael Mosley advocates (via YouTube videos) and as well as occasional starvation he says we only need to exercise for three minutes a week, well hitch me to the band wagon coz that sounds awesome!

See an article on it here:

So warm up, go all out for 20 seconds, catch your breath, another hellish 20 seconds, calm yourself again, a final 20 seconds and cool down and you are done. Do this three times a week. You can do this cycling or running. I am just gonna incorporate it as part of my dog walk, might look a bit mental but so would going to the gym for a seven minute workout! Read the article for the health benefits and reviews at the bottom xx

Alternate Day Fasting..only kinda not

There are different versions of this diet with some people fasting for two days a week at the easier end and the most hard one-day-on, one-day-off version. I have been thinking about it and if I did Alternate days I would sometimes be fasting on Sundays which is my families regular catch-up meal day. So I have decided to fast on Mon, Wednes and Fridays. It means I will have a fixed pattern, which I prefer, and that I will have every weekend off which is way better for socialising! (My Hen night is next weekend for example, sure it would have went down a storm if I'd abstained from eating and drinking for one of those days!!!). Plus it means I can arrange any wild nights out for Saturdays and I will be able to eat all of those hangover cures I love on the Sunday - fry-ups, coke-a-cola and junk food.

Dumbells

So I am obv in a fitness freak-out because I've bought some dumbells and a this thing:

It's a waist trimmer belt that you use whilst exercising to help trim your waist - self explanatory really. I wore it to do pilates and to sleep last night. I am hoping it has a corset effect!

The reviews for this product are pretty amazing - loosing a waist inch in a week and so forth. Definitely worth the fiver I paid for it in TK Maxx.

Erin O'Brien

Although my daughter is nearly 3yo I still love doing Erin's DVD called postnatal rescue. It's a pilates workout that focuses on getting your stomach to 'lay sleekly against your spine'. All I know is is just hard enough for me to feel like its doing something without me quitting! There are three progressions, each getting harder - I am still on progression 2!

Alternate day Diet

I love the idea of the alternate day diet as you always only have to get through that day and eat whatever you want the next. Although living it will probably be hell during those 7pm biscuit tin cravings!

Rules

So my rules were going to follow a plan of every other day fasting -with a 500 calorie allowance on the fast days and unlimited on the (for want of a better word) binge days. But I have decided to update the diet and only fast on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. This means I have weekends off and never have to miss Two for Tuesdays at Dominoes, he he.

On my 500 calorie days I am going to use meal replacements from a company called Boossh.

Profile picture

Alongside this diet I will be doing HIT training. This is where you warm up then run or cycle for 20 seconds, get your breath back, do another 20 seconds and repeat one more time. This adds up to 1 minute of intense exercise  you need to do this three times a week adding up to three minutes. I can do that!

I will also be doing at least 15 mins pilates a day to target my gut - well I am a mum!! - and will be wearing a waist cinching band.

Update: such a slacker, now changing my calories intake on fast days to 550 so that I can make my shakes with skimmed milk instead of water - at this rate I will be eating fish and chips on fast days too!

Anticipating weight loss

OK, so I have used a daily deals site (http://www.groupon.co.uk/) to buy a deal on meal replacement diet site BOOSSH (http://www.boossh.com/). This invloved buying 56 meal replacement packs for the low, low cost of £40 - delivery will tell if it's a massive waste of money on some yukky goo or actually a good idea!
So my plan is, I am going to try Alternate day fasting as detailed in this YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9MmjbTwS58), basically eating normally one day and eating 500 calories the next. I thought these BOOSSH meals would make this a whole lot simpler on the 'fast' days as the packets are already calorie counted.
The deal voucher doesn't start until tomorrow night so I cannot order until then, but I have registered with the site and decided what I am going to order:
